1986
Vittorino and Wanda Carra, Gilda and Raffaele d’Ari visit Manila along with Father Rizzo and Father Bebber – both Camillians – and see the place where the Camillian missionaries lead, with few resources, a small nutritional center. Back in Italy, a collection is made among friend, and the first raised funds are paid into a current account and periodically sent to the Camillian Fathers.
1989
After Vittorino’s death, four of his friends, Gorrieri, Mengozzi, Menziani, and Orlandi come up with the initiative of honoring his memory by continuing Vittorino’s idea. The Camillians use the funds raised to start the construction of a General Hospital around 20 km from Manila, in Cogeo, with an attached nutritional and educative center, that will be called “Vitorino Carra Learning Center”.
1990-91
Camillian Friars officially create the foundation “Vittorino Carra Foundation Inc.” in the Philippines in September, 1990, with the humanitarian mission of building a nursing home for the needed. Also thanks to the funds donated by Father Pio’s Suffering Relief House, the work is finished and inaugurated on January 4th, 1992. The Center houses 160 children and gives education, feeding, and sanitary assistance to children between 2 and 6 years old.
1992
One further way to support the children in Manila is introduced: Distance Adoption.
1993
The number of children assisted grows to 180. The funds raised along the year are used for the purchasing of medical equipment for the General Hospital: Pharmacy, Radiology, Dentistry, Tests Laboratory.
1994
A plot on the Island of Samar, a lost island in the Philippines, is donated to the Camillian Fathers along with the request of building a hospital with 60 beds. The funds raised in 1994 are used for starting the construction of the hospital. In addition, three containers are sent with tiles and building materials that will be useful for the realization of the work.
1995
The funds collected are used to continue the building of Samar Hospital and the purchasing of medical equipment.
1996
On September 7th, 1996, Samar Hospital is blessed and inaugurated with the presence of three bishops and the Italian Ambassador, and comes to be called by the peasants and fishermen of the island “the most beautiful hospital in the world". The funds raised along the year are used to purchase further equipment for the hospital.
1997
The two operating theaters, the delivering room, the laboratory, the first aids room, and other auxiliary rooms are equipped.
1998
The construction of a social center attached to Samar Hospital is started, to house the children that cannot be received in the main building.
1999
The number of children assisted in Vittorino Carra Nutritional Center in Cogeo arrives to 250.
Samar Hospital is supported in its activity, thousands of patients are treated and assisted.
2000-2001
The funds collected are used for the support and consolidation of both Cogeo General Hospital and Nutritional Center and Samar Hospital.
2002
The already existing foundation “Vittorino Carra Foundation” in the Philippines, is registered in Italy as ONLUS under the name of “Vittorino Carra-Solidarietà ONLUS”.
A new project is started: the construction of a hostel for giving a house and a family to orphan children with AIDS. This center, called “The Garden of Eden”, will be placed in Thailand, in the province of Rayong, Baan Krai.
2003
The works for the construction of the Garden of Eden continue, as well as the support to the activities performed in the Philippines.
2004
The construction of the Garden of Eden is finished and a new project is financed: the realization of a well in Chaingrai, in the North of Thailand. Moreover, “Camillian Social Center” elementary school in Chaingrai, Thailand is also supported.
In Congo, the purchase of a Medical Mission minibus is financed. This minibus, equipped for nursing, will allow reaching, on scheduled dates, the villages that are kilometers away from any hospital.
In Manaoag, another project is started: the building and furnishing of “Vittorino Carra” secondary school, that includes a day care and nutritional center.
A contribution is made to sooth the sufferings of Morgan village, seriously affected by the tsunami.
2005
The support to the initiatives continues and a new project starts: the furnishing of “St. Camillius School”, the Nursing School in Manaoag.
In Thailand, the construction of a new well in St. Camillius leprosary in Khokwat is financed.
2006
A new initiative is started: the sewing school for single young girls in Burkina Faso, that shall give them the chance of having a job, preventing them from the dangers of the streets.
In Thailand, the project “Adopting a Village” is financed. This project consists in helping children – up to now housed in the Center – to go to school being able to stay in their villages within their families.
